History of the lodge
Museum is in old hunting lodge of Schwarzenberg family that was built in 1713. Baroque style building is designed by P.I.Bayer. First exhibition was built in 1842.
How to get there?
It's easy to make a day trip to the museum from tourist favored Prague. Train is a notable option, wich I also strongly recommend. Altough trains are from the soviet era, they are clean, not overcrowded and smoothly operating, so travelling is comfortable. Trains also run often.
After hectic coming and going in Prague it is pleasant to travel through peaceful and beautiful czech counryside. Landscapes are filled with quite low but steep hillsides and clefts, plants and strange looking buildings. Forests are mainly great variety of leafy trees with occasional conifereous mixture.
Alternatives by train
Train scheludes can be browsed in Czech railroad company's website www.vlak.cz. There's two possible routes by train from Prague to Hluboka nad Vltavou: either via Ceské Budejovice to main station of Hluboka or straight to station of Zamosti. Hluboka's station is easily within walkable distance from Ohrada (slightly over 1 km). Zamosti is quite far away, but this route have a nice walk through village to Hluboka and by Municky-pond to Ohrada (see map). There is also a buss route from Zamosti to Hluboka.
Note to those who walk: there's no road signs to Ohrada at least from Zamosti but Ohrada zoo -signs lead the way also to the museum.
